“Becoming Christlike is a lifetime pursuit and very often involves growth and change that is slow, almost imperceptible.”
Does it feel like we should be halfway through the year already?
It’s almost as though we went away for Spring Break and woke up on the eve of Independence day weekend.
At the same time, when we look back at all we have taken on the chin so far this year, it seems a decade’s worth of challenges has been packed into just these last few months.
Summer has definitely arrived, though.
In Texas we are already in the throws of 80 degree mornings and 95 degree evenings.
And the temperature outside isn’t the only thing heating up.
COVID cases are re-surging, racial tensions are boiling over, and election season is warming up for what promises to be an unprecedentedly hostile fall season.
It’s times like these when we can be grateful for the built in pause of a holiday weekend.
One of my favorite aspects of summer holidays, aside from the reasons we celebrate them in the first place, is the unhurried cadence to it all.
It’s a time for family.
It’s a time for looking away from screens and towards a campfire.
It’s a time to lounge around near some water.
It’s a time to cook things at low temperatures for long periods.
It’s a time of year that remind us of an eternal truth:
The best things in life come to us slowly.
